Portal Training was delighted to sponsor County in the Community’s “Fit and Fed” half term event on Monday, 30th May.
The event, which was held at Lliswerry Pond, Newport, attracted 36 young people from 5 schools, for a day of fun, physical activity and a healthy lunch
The “Fit and Fed” programme offers fun physical activities such as football, dodgeball and more, as well as healthy meals to some of society’s most vulnerable young people.
County in the Community works in partnership with StreetGames to host “Fit and Fed”, which has been delivered in the Newport Community of Alway for several years, adapting their delivery during the pandemic. The free events are held every half term and on certain dates through the summer holidays.
Clare Jeffries, Director of Operations at Portal Training said: “It was an absolute pleasure to sponsor this event and we had a great day seeing the young people taking part in sports and enjoying themselves in the fresh air.
“We love working in partnership with County in the Community, who also deliver sessions as part of our Level 3 Apprenticeship in Supporting the Delivery of PE and School Sport. We were more than happy to be able to give back and support their ‘Fit and Fed’ event.”
“Fit and Fed” was created in 2016, and has since benefited 66,198 children and young people, and provided food and physical activity, a lifeline for families and children who may otherwise experience hunger, and isolation during the school breaks.
Norman Parselle, CEO of County in the Community said: “We have been very lucky in the past to receive funding from various organisations including StreetGames, Tesco, Newport Participatory Budgeting and currently Children in Need to support our Fit & Fed provision in Newport.
“With Portal Training adding their support it allows our staff to deliver more Fit & Fed days across the City of Newport. This will hopefully provide more children with the chance to engage in FUN sports activities and be provided with a Healthy meal.
“We would like to thank Portal Training for partnering with us on Fit & Fed and hope our partnership of six years will continue long into the future.”
